I feel like in a sense, their relationship doesn't have to be inherently romantic, but there is something to be said about the parallels they have. They both were created by someone who does not exist anymore, and the purpose that was given to them became irrelevant. They are doomed by the start because of the narrative. There is a sort of enjoyment they have when they fight, Gabriel enjoys the fight because of the challenge and struggle, V1 enjoys it for the blood, because it satiates their hunger.

In a sense I belive Gabriel would eventually see them as equals in terms of fighting, and while I don't know if that would develop in love, there is respect and admiration when someone equals to you in a fight.

With V1 is difficult, cause we don't really know if they can feel things or if they have free will. Did they come down to hell only because their systems tell them to? Or did they feel the hunger deep inside their plating?

Did they say "You won't get away this time" to V2 or was it Hell itself who said this? Did they felt envy for V2? Did they felt anger?

Does V1 like hell, or are they afraid? Does V1 knows what awaits for them when everyone dies? Have they accepted it?

Do they enjoy killing? Is V1 sadistic, or does this just because of the means of survival? Like an animal trapped in a cage trying to survive?

Why hasn't V1 killed Gabriel? Is it because he escaped before they could, is it because something else?

They have killed countless of creatures, husks and machines alike, they have killed anyone who stood in their way. Except him.

Why?

Maybe hell seems to like both of them, so it wants their fight to be the last? Like two gladiators bound to fight in a Coliseum for their freedom.

Is it for hell's enjoyment or for theirs?

I think Gabriel feels like his purpose doesn't exist anymore, and the most glorious and symbolic way to die is by a final fight.

Will the machine care for that? Probably not. Gabriel knows this.

But the things he realized still happened, the emotions he felt still exist. And even in his own demise, he will enjoy it. Killed by someone who gave him one last purpose.

And for the machine... At best they will die without a thought or a feeling. At worst, their desesperation, their hunger will torture them. They will run and claw at the walls of hell for any sort of food. The despair, the agony and regret in their system for killing someone who gave them life.

I really really understand the desire to depict V1 as a cocky, smug little robot that flirts with Gabriel and teases him but it really isn’t where the crux of their relationship is interesting to me.

Like, ok. How do I word this without sounding delusional. So, Gabriel isn’t necessarily in love with V1, he just got his entire world upended by this thing and because he’s only known faith and dependency on a higher power he just assumes that it’s probably love. V1, on the other hand, just doesn’t feel that. It feels nothing. It was built to kill and kill it shall and Gabriel is just kind of top prey. It doesn’t have a desire to be smug or to be cocky, it simply kills stylishly to fit into the system that was set up by the terminal as explained in P-2, it’s its job.

Gabriel and V1 aren’t a romantic relationship, or even a sexual one, it’s a parasitic one in a way that’s really poignant to me.

Or maybe I’ve just completely lost it. Idk.

D&D 5e PC free to a good home: Human Bard, Variant Human build wherein they start with a Feat. The Feat is Magic Initiate into the Warlock class. They got it because they defeated a Devil in a crossroads fiddle duel and, when they refused the golden fiddle prize, knowing it to be a trap, the Devil laughed and offered them a straightforward deal instead: three wishes, with a teaser sample of 2 cantrips + a 1 use/day petty spell, and after the fulfillment of the third wish, their soul will come directly to Hell.

The Bard agreed - they're fine so long as they never use the third wish, right? Heck, they'll just never use any of the wishes, and they can escape this very dangerous conversation with a little magical boost and a great story to tell.

How you play them is entirely up to you, except know that 3 times, you can call upon this Devil for a wish...which will manifest, mechanically, as taking a level in Warlock. For the third wish, they will give you that same golden fiddle, which will act as a Pact of the Blade Pact Weapon, mechanically modified to function primarily as a spellcasting focus rather than a literal weapon.

Your relationship with the Devil is also up to you and the DM. Personally, I'd go for slowburn romance with a College of Creation Bard, to really fascinate a properly Lucifer-coded Devil, fulfilling the final term of the deal by straight-up moving to Hell with your new sugar mommy (after defeating the Big Bad of the campaign, which is what you needed the third wish for). Or the Devil could be the Big Bad of the campaign! Or you can never make a wish and multiclass into Warlock, if you're very strong of will! It's your story to tell.
